Waste Process Engineer
Hands-on Waste Process Engineer in Auckland to lead our waste operations, drive mechanical and process improvements.
At Intergroup, we’re the behind-the-scenes legends of infrastructure and industrial services — delivering across waste management, industrial services, coatings, and water infrastructure. You’ve probably seen us working in your neighbourhood.
From industrial liquids to construction by-products, we handle the collection, treatment, and disposal of a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams — supporting environmental protection and regulatory compliance across New Zealand. With processing facilities nationwide, a large fleet of vacuum and bulk liquid trucks, and deep in-house expertise in hazardous waste management, we deliver complete, traceable waste solutions from source to final disposal or reuse.
We’re now looking for a hands-on Waste Process Engineer to join our Auckland team and take ownership of our waste plant operations.
About the role
This is not a desk-only engineering job. You’ll be on the ground, in the thick of it — leading daily plant operations, supporting your team on the floor, and driving continuous improvement across mechanical and process systems.
You’ll manage a team of waste processors, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations while identifying opportunities to improve plant performance, reliability, and throughput.
You’ll also be the go-to person for mechanical and process improvements — troubleshooting issues, optimising systems, and implementing smarter ways of working.
Oversee day-to-day operations of the waste processing plant
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of waste processors
Drive plant performance, efficiency, and compliance
Identify and implement process and mechanical improvements
Troubleshoot operational and equipment issues
Optimise throughput, cost efficiency, and environmental outcomes
Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards
Act as the key contact for plant-related technical matters
About you
Mechanical engineering background (essential)
Experience in waste treatment or industrial processing environments (highly desirable)
Strong hands-on approach — comfortable working on the plant floor
Proven leadership experience in operational or production settings
Process improvement mindset with strong problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance
If you’re practical, mechanically minded, and ready to lead from the front, we want to hear from you.
