Take Ownership of a Critical Waste Processing Operation

We're looking for a practical, hands-on Hazardous Waste Operator to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our hazardous waste processing facility in Wellington.
This is a unique role that combines operational coordination, plant operation, environmental compliance, and customer service. You'll be the key person responsible for receiving, processing, treating, and managing waste streams through our facility while ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with environmental requirements.
About the Role
This is a predominantly operational role where you'll be actively involved in the handling, treatment, and processing of waste materials.
You'll coordinate incoming waste collections, manage waste received at the facility, operate treatment processes, maintain plant equipment, and ensure treated water and waste products meet required standards before disposal.
The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to help grow and develop the facility as demand increases.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate incoming waste collections and deliveries
Create and manage work orders and job records
Receive and process waste materials at the facility
Operate de-watering and waste treatment processes
Manage waste stockpiles and disposal activities
Monitor and maintain clarifiers, tanks, and associated plant equipment
Ensure treated water and site run-off complies with council and environmental requirements
Maintain accurate records of waste volumes and processing activities
Conduct routine cleaning, maintenance, and housekeeping of the facility
Liaise with customers regarding waste disposal requirements and potential opportunities
Support the continued growth and development of the hazardous waste operation
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical work, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and is comfortable working in an industrial environment.
You'll ideally bring:
Experience in waste operations, industrial services, plant operations, water treatment, or a similar environment
A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Good communication and customer service skills
A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance
Mechanical aptitude and confidence operating plant and equipment
Experience with hazardous waste, wastewater, or treatment processes is advantageous but not essential
