Process Engineer – Waste & Industrial Operations
We’re looking for a hands-on Waste Supervisor in Wellington to process waste, run plant operations, and deliver great service to our customers on the ground. Is this you?
Process Engineer – Waste & Industrial Operations (Wellington)
At Intergroup, we’re the behind-the-scenes legends powering essential infrastructure and industrial services across New Zealand. From waste management and industrial services to coatings and water infrastructure, our work keeps communities running — and chances are, you’ve seen us in action.
We’re looking for a practical, solutions-focused Process Engineer to join our Wellington team. This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on plant operations with process improvement, playing a key role in how hydro excavation waste is managed, treated, and optimised through our facility.
About the role
You’ll be out in the field and on the plant floor, taking ownership of waste processing operations while continuously improving systems, workflows, and performance.
You’ll work closely with customers and operational teams to ensure waste streams are handled safely, efficiently, and in full compliance — while identifying smarter ways to get the job done.
Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing and actively participating in hydro excavation waste processing
Monitoring and optimising plant performance and equipment operation
Coordinating incoming loads and working directly with customers onsite
Ensuring compliant, safe, and efficient handling of all waste streams
Maintaining accurate operational data, records, and reporting
Identifying and implementing process improvements and efficiencies
Supporting and promoting strong health, safety, and environmental practices
About you
You’re an engineer who enjoys being close to the action — someone who can think analytically but isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get involved on the ground.
We’re looking for:
A hands-on, practical mindset with a passion for operational environments
Experience in process engineering, waste treatment, hydro excavation, or plant operations
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with customers and teams
A proactive problem-solver with a focus on continuous improvement
A strong commitment to safety, compliance, and environmental standards
Reliable, organised, and able to manage competing priorities
Why join Intergroup?
Be part of a critical industry that supports communities and infrastructure
Combine engineering thinking with real-world, hands-on impact
Work in a collaborative, down-to-earth team environment
Opportunities to grow your skills in both operations and process improvement
If you’re ready to apply your engineering mindset in a role where you can truly make a difference on the ground, we’d love to hear from you.
