STMS – Wellington

Lead the Site. Support the Crew.

Vac U Digga is New Zealand's leading hydro excavation specialist. We're looking for an experienced STMS to join our Wellington team, supporting utility and civil projects across the region.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being part of the crew, not just standing on the roadside. You'll be responsible for traffic management while also assisting with day-to-day site operations, including hydro excavation and underground utility work.

About the Role

As the STMS, you'll take responsibility for establishing and maintaining safe traffic management across our work sites while supporting the team with operational tasks when required.

You'll work on a range of projects, including utility maintenance, copper cable hauling and installation, hydro excavation, and other civil works throughout the Wellington region.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead all on-site traffic management activities

• Set up, monitor, and maintain Temporary Traffic Management Plans (TMPs)

• Ensure worksites remain safe, compliant, and efficient

• Support hydro excavation and utility crews with operational tasks

• Assist with copper cable hauling, pulling, and installation

• Complete site documentation and traffic management records

• Communicate effectively with crews, contractors, and members of the public

What We're Looking For

• Current STMS qualification (Level 1 or higher)

• Full Class 4 driver's licence

• Experience working in civil construction, utilities, or road maintenance

• Sound knowledge of temporary traffic management requirements

• Physically fit and happy working in a hands-on environment

• Practical problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic

• Reliable, safety-focused, and a team player
