People and Capability Business Partner
Bring your expertise. Bring your curiosity. Bring your safety boots to this high performing People and Capability team.
At Intergroup, we keep New Zealand moving. As a leading industrial and infrastructure services business, we deliver the essential work that underpins our communities—maintaining critical assets, supporting industry, and ensuring the services people depend on run smoothly every day.
We're more than a People & Capability team—we're trusted partners to the business.
If you're an experienced People & Capability professional who loves partnering with leaders, thrives on solving complex people challenges, and isn't afraid to swap the office for safety boots and a high-vis vest, we'd love to meet you.
We're looking for a true generalist who enjoys working across the full employee lifecycle and building genuine partnerships with leaders and teams. This is a role for someone who wants to be visible, approachable, and embedded in the business—not sitting behind a desk waiting for the phone to ring.
You'll be trusted to provide practical, commercially focused advice while supporting leaders through everything from recruitment and onboarding to performance, development, employment relations, and employee exits. No two days are the same because people aren't, and you'll be someone who enjoys the challenge that brings.
What you'll be doing
You'll partner closely with leaders across the business to help create high-performing teams and positive employee experiences. You'll:
Provide expert advice across the full employee lifecycle—from attracting great people through to their exits for whatever reason.
Lead complex employment relations matters with confidence and professionalism.
Coach and support leaders to build their people leadership capability.
Partner with managers to recruit and retain great talent.
Work alongside operational teams, developing a strong understanding of how the business operates so your advice is practical, commercially sound, relevant, and adds real value.
Contribute to People & Capability initiatives that improve the employee experience and strengthen organisational capability.
Ensure our people practices remain compliant, fair, and aligned with employment legislation and business objectives.
What we're looking for
You'll be an experienced HR professional who enjoys the breadth of a generalist role and isn't afraid to tackle the more challenging conversations.
You'll bring:
Extensive experience in a generalist HR or People & Capability Business Partner role ideally 5+ years.
Strong employment relations expertise, with proven experience managing a diverse caseload.
Confidence partnering with leaders at all levels and influencing positive outcomes.
Excellent coaching, communication, and relationship-building skills.
A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with sound judgement.
The ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of service.
A genuine interest in understanding the business and being present where the work happens.
Why you'll love working with us
We're not a traditional People & Capability team.
Our team is highly visible, hands-on, and genuinely connected to the business. We believe the best people advice comes from understanding our operations, knowing our people, and building trusted relationships. You'll regularly be out on site, talking with teams, supporting leaders, and becoming a familiar face across the organisation.
If you're looking for a role where you can make a real impact, build meaningful partnerships, and work across every aspect of the employee experience, we'd love to hear from you.
